National Poetry Month, launched in April 1996, seeks to elevate poetry and its magnificence as a literary form. The month-long celebration commemorates poetry and honors its permanence and value in the American cultural landscape. Literary and poetry organizations, publishers, libraries, schools, booksellers, and poets throughout the nation participate in poetry readings, discussions, workshops, competitions, and festivals.
